Problem summary
Your Nordmende RTF3 freestanding freezer is running but not cooling food to freezer temperature. The compressor may be audible, but the cabinet remains warm or at room temperature.
Likely causes

Evaporator fan motor (36.8%) – The fan that circulates cold air inside the freezer cabinet can wear out or fail. If it stops working, cold air from the compressor doesn't reach the food compartment effectively.
Temperature sensor (26.3%) – The NTC thermistor or temperature probe tells the compressor when to run and stop. A faulty sensor may prevent the cooling cycle from starting or cause it to shut off prematurely.
Compressor or motor (21.1%) – The compressor itself may have failed, or the motor that drives it is not running. This is not a DIY repair.
Other possibilities include airflow blockage, a failed defrost system, or low refrigerant, though these are less common in the RTF3 range.
What you can try yourself
If you're confident working with basic tools, these checks may help identify the fault:
- Check the plug and socket. Make sure the freezer is plugged in firmly and the socket is switched on. Test the socket with another appliance.
- Listen for the fan. Open the freezer door and listen for a quiet fan noise from inside the cabinet. If you hear nothing, the evaporator fan may have stopped.
- Check for ice blockage. Look for frost or ice blocking the air vents or ducts inside the freezer. Clear any visible blockage gently with a plastic tool (never use sharp objects near refrigerant lines).
- Let it run for 30 minutes. Sometimes a freezer needs time to restart a cooling cycle. Leave it plugged in and running for half an hour, then check if the cabinet feels cold.
If the cabinet is still warm after these checks, the fault is likely the fan motor, sensor, or compressor — all of which require a qualified engineer to replace safely.
Why this needs an engineer
The evaporator fan, temperature sensor, and compressor are sealed or high-voltage components. Replacing them requires safe disconnection of refrigerant lines (which must be done by a Gas Safe or F-Gas certified engineer) and electrical testing to avoid damage or safety hazards.
