Your Kenwood freestanding electric cooker oven is not heating up, even when switched on and set to temperature. This is one of the most common faults we see in Kenwood models across Northern Ireland.
Likely causes
Based on 114 similar jobs completed by SMC Services engineers, the issue is most often one of three electrical or mechanical components:
Heating element (45% of cases) The main oven heating element may have failed. This is the wire that glows red and generates heat. A failed element will stop the oven warming completely.
Fan motor (19.5% of cases) If your oven has a fan-assisted setting, the fan motor may have stopped working. Without airflow, heat distribution fails and temperatures won't climb.
Oven motor (5.3% of cases) Less common, but a faulty motor can prevent the oven from operating correctly.
Why this needs an engineer
All three of these parts involve electrical connections to mains voltage and mechanical assemblies inside a sealed oven cavity. Attempting to replace them yourself risks electrical shock, damage to the cooker, or injury.
A qualified engineer will: - Safely isolate the cooker from mains power - Test which component has failed using specialist equipment - Replace the faulty part with an original or equivalent component - Verify the oven heats evenly before signing off the job
What to check before calling
- Power supply: Confirm the cooker is plugged in and the socket is live (test with another appliance if unsure).
- Control settings: Make sure the temperature dial or digital display is set above room temperature, and any timer is not active.
- Cool-down time: If the oven was recently in use, allow it to cool for 20–30 minutes before testing again; some cookers have thermal cut-outs that reset.
