Problem summary
Your Samsung WW80 is not draining water at the end of the cycle, and may also not be spinning properly. Water sits in the drum or empties very slowly. This is one of the more common faults we see on this model family, and the cause is usually a blockage or a worn component in the drainage path.
Likely causes
Based on our repair records, drainage problems on the WW80 range are most often caused by:
Pump or drain pump failure — the pump that forces water out may be blocked, worn, or have failed. This accounts for most of the faults we attend.
Blocked filter or hose — the drain filter or outlet hose may be clogged with fibres, coins, or debris. This is common and often fixable at home.
Control board (PCB) fault — less common, but the circuit board that controls the pump may not be sending the right signal. This requires professional diagnosis.
Door seal or tub blockage — water trapped behind the seal or a blockage in the internal drainage path can prevent proper emptying.
What you can try yourself (DIY)
Before calling an engineer, check these points:
Stop the machine and switch off the plug.
Check the drain filter — most WW80 models have a small access panel near the bottom front. Open it and unscrew the filter cover. Pull out any visible debris, coins, or fluff. Run a small amount of water through to test. This alone fixes many drainage issues.
Inspect the outlet hose — if your machine drains to a standpipe or sink, check that the hose is not kinked, pinched, or clogged. Straighten any kinks. If it feels blocked, you may be able to carefully flush it with water (disconnect it first and work over a bucket).
Check the pump inlet — on some models, you can access the pump area after removing the filter. Look for trapped items or obvious blockages.
Run a test cycle — after checking these, plug the machine back in and run a short cycle to see if water drains.
If the filter and hose are clear and the machine still won't drain, the pump itself is likely faulty or the control board is not triggering it. At that point, a qualified engineer will need to diagnose and replace the part.
If you're in Northern Ireland, SMC Services can usually book a repair within 2-3 working days.
When to call SMC Services
Call us if:
- The filter is clear but the machine still won't drain
- Water is backing up into the drum or leaking
- The pump is making a grinding or unusual noise
- You're not confident opening panels or handling electrical components
Our engineers carry the most common wear parts (pump, hose, seal, filter) and can often complete the repair in one visit.
