Likely causes
When a dishwasher receives mains power but won't turn on, the fault usually lies in the control board, door-lock mechanism, or internal electrical components.
Control board (PCB) is the most common cause in models across the Nordmende range. This is the circuit board that manages all functions. If it's faulty, it cannot respond to button presses even when the appliance is powered. A faulty PCB requires replacement by a qualified engineer.
Door-lock mechanism occasionally prevents the dishwasher from starting. If the door lock's microswitch is not registering correctly, the control board will not allow operation. This is a safety feature—the machine assumes the door is not properly closed.
Motor or internal wiring issues can also stop the appliance from starting. These are sealed or complex electrical systems that need professional diagnosis and repair.
Why this needs an engineer
All three likely causes involve electrical components, sealed systems, or components that interact with mains voltage. The control board and door-lock microswitch cannot be safely tested or replaced without specialist tools and knowledge of the appliance's safety circuits.
